She's reported on the sports scene for major media outlets across the globe. She spent almost a decade covering sports for The Washington Post, including football, tennis, and basketball. In 2004, Nichols moved on to ESPN for a nine-year run during which she was awarded two Emmy Awards and appeared on several of the network's top popular shows, such as SportsCenter as well as NFL Countdown.
